A Day at Home of Hope…

Some of our friends, this time decided to spend a day with people who are underprivileged (economically and hence socially!). So we decided to visit Home of Hope in Bangalore.

Before we talk about the day, let me introduce Hope Of Hope.

In the midst of a lot of privileges (economically and hence socially), most of us are busy chasing things we really don’t need in life; some of us start thinking about the reality of life but don’t know what to do; a few of us support financially for social causes without bothering about the end result; a very few of us find dedicated time in a consistent manner and respond to social needs for our fellow human…and very rarely one emerges to dedicate life to them – Auto Raja is one such soul! On a contrary, he was not enjoying all the so-called privileges of an urban life, (maybe) hence, he responded to the needy on the streets. He started accommodating such people suffering from unbelievable anguish, in his own small house, way back in 1997 under the name ‘New Ark Mission India (NAMI)’. He wanted to provide them, at least the basic needs – food, shelter, clothes and medicine; on top of all – some dignity in life…at least a respectful death!! Hence Home of Hope!

Today, it has 3 different wings – for men, for ladies and for kids – and almost 750 inhabitants!!! They all enjoy a better life at Home of Hope, with new little hopes in life!

We reached there in the morning and visited the ladies wing first.

We spend time talking to some of them. Many of them are physically and mentally ill and were thrown to the hard test in the streets….different stories of family and social brutality they faced before reaching Home of Hope.

We next visited kids wing. Kids were playing as it is a no school day! Some kids were disabled and need help to even move around. Many of them came to us and they wanted us to talk, carry them and play with them….Yeah, they don’t get that on an everyday basis! We distributed some snacks for them and spent some time with them.

We had arranged special lunch for all the friends in Hope of Hope. Along with Home of Hope team, we distributed lunch. We started lunch distribution at Men’s wing. Some students from a nearby college also joined us. There were more than 300 men of different ages at Men’s wing. Same story as Ladies wing – physically and mentally changed, some of them even can’t respond or eat food by themselves.

We joined in serving food for Ladies and kids later.

We ensured to reserve some snacks for their evening tea.

Smiling faces….it left some nice feeling in all of us when we returned. Hats off to Auto Raja and Team Home of Hope! Thanks to my friends and my lil boys who joined and spent the whole day together with them!

A day with some differences….and also a thought – we must do better in a consistent way!

The Butterfly cannot die!

ButterflyWing

Jerry: “Papa, where is that wing?”
Papa: “Which wing? What for?”

Jerry: “That butterfly wing, which we got near our sunflower plant..”
Papa: “It would have been swept away!”
Jerry: “What? I kept it near the sofa. I want it!!”
He ran out and started searching…Papa joined, though he did not know what’s happening!

Jerry: “Hey Papa, got it, got it!!”
He was in ecstasy!

Papa: “Oh, you want it for artwork in school…”
Jerry: “No! I want the other parts of this butterfly also. It will work, It will work!!”
He was so confident. He was observing that butterfly wing eagerly.

Papa: ” What will work?”
Jerry: “Come on Papa! You don’t know? We need to get other parts and join. It will fly again!”
Papa was at sea!

Papa: “Jerry, the butterfly is dead. Even if you join the parts, a dead butterfly cannot fly!”
Jerry: “Yes, if you simply join the parts, it will not work! But, if you get the correct parts, and fit it correctly, it will fly!”
Papa: “…actually it was dead…..” (He could not complete!)

Jerry: “…..that butterfly cannot die! I will get the remaining parts and join them. I will show you how it can fly again….!”
Papa failed to convince him. His conviction was so strong!

There was a cocoon beginning to show below the sunflower leaf!

Yes, the butterfly cannot die!

New, Medium, Old! (A Tom&Jerry Story Again…)

boysA Tom&Jerry Story! (Tom: A 12yr boy; Jerry: A 5yr boy)

Luckily the car is in workshop!
So…a cool evening, a nice walk with papa and mama; Tom and Jerry were enjoying the walk in the green and the bright red sun above!

Tom was walking with Mama, Jerry and Papa were running ahead and playing!

But, at times, technology is a nuisance – papa got a call – his friend!

As usual, papa walked the talk!
Finally….

Jerry: “….papa….enough..” (He pinched Papa!)
Papa stared at Jerry!
Jerry felt sad, so as papa! Papa decided to wind up.

Papa:”…ok Joy…will meet you tommorrow…ok, good night!”
Papa usually uses good night at the end with close friends just for fun.
But, ‘good night’ during the evening is not fun for Jerry….

Jerry (with all his English knowledge and looking at papa very seriously!): “…papa…what makes you to say ‘good night’, when it is ‘good morning’?….”
Papa looked at Jerry, Jerry continued his serious look. He was waiting for papa’s answer!

Papa: “…what? good morning…? let me check with mama and Tom…”
Papa ran towards mama and tom. Jerry followed.

Papa: “…someone is thinking evening is morning!…”
Jerry: “…someone is thinking now with all the light is good night!!..”

Tom started with science and facts….Mama sensed a long class on earth, sun and solar system!!! Mama quickly intervened…;)

Mama: “….both are right!!!”
“…What????” Papa, Tom and Jerry shouted together! 😉
Mama will have some magic like this always!!

Mama continued…
“…For my jerry, when the light is there it is morning…so its ok and correct. For Papa, he says it for fun!…”

Tom could not tolerate the wrong postulates against scientific facts!

Tom:”…..mamaaaaa……”

Papa:”…hey Tom, now you join me for a short run…let Jerry be with Mama…”
Papa came up with that offer at the right time….! Science class postponed! 😉

Tom joined Papa; Jerry with Mama continued the walk!

Papa saw one very old condemned van on the roadside.
Papa became spiritual (all of sudden!) 😉

Papa: “Tom, do you know what is life?”
Tom got shocked! What happened to Papa!
Tom: “…Papa, are you ok…you want water….?”
Papa:”….hey Tom….!”
Tom:”…ok…ok….tell me what is life?”
Papa:”Life is like this van! Once it was new, people drove it carefully with a lot of love…Later it carried many people, so many places and made people happy. Later, it started losing breath to carry people ….and slowly, it became old and useless! Finally….none wants to take care and dumped here. Now it’s engine is lost, no tyres, all the wiring is stolen, no seats, and only the rusted shell remains!

We are also like that…when we came, we showered happiness around. People cared us with a lot of love and affection. Later we grow and take responsibilities to care others and also enjoy happiness from newcomers. We make things for others, in that run…we forget the reality of old age! Finally, we also become a burden for others….then….then…”

Papa did not want to push that much….He simply stopped and asked Tom…
Papa:”…ok….by the way…did you understand anything…?”
Tom:”…m…somewhat..!!”
Papa:”Then tell me….what is life?…”
Papa became a teacher! 😉

Tom gave a very calm look to Papa and said…

Tom: “…New, Medium, Old!”
Papa cannot get anything more enlightening! He smiled, Tom also smiled!

Yards behind…Mama and Jerry were still playing, laughing and enjoying the red sun!
